STATION III // JESUS IS CONDEMNED

Luke 22:52-55
Then Jesus said to the chief priests, the officers of the temple guard, and the elders, who had come for him, “Am I leading a rebellion, that you have come with swords and clubs? Every day I was with you in the temple courts, and you did not lay a hand on me. But this is your hour—when darkness reigns.” Then seizing him, they led him away and took him into the house of the high priest.
Reflection
Darkness. Instead of an orderly & just trial in the light of day, Jesus was condemned in the middle of the night. Jesus experienced the consequences of injustice. He was condemned to death in a corrupted system. He was put on trial by a religious establishment that felt threatened by his message. False witnesses testified against him. Upon the request to execute Him, Pilate asked them, "What has he done?"

Instead of charges & evidence, they shouted "Crucify Him!" If they were to answer honestly, Jesus was being charged with feeding the hungry, acting justly, healing the broken, preaching Good News to the poor, extending mercy & forgiveness, praying for His enemies, raising the dead to life, & ultimately exposing the deeds of darkness to the truth, light, and life.

  • Where have you experienced the reign of darkness & injustice?
  • Jesus received injustice so that we could receive mercy. Receive & reflect on the forgiveness that Jesus provides to you & those in your life.
