STATION IV // JESUS IS MOCKED

John 18:20-23, 19:1-6
“I have spoken openly to the world,” Jesus replied. “I always taught in synagogues or at the temple, where all the Jews come together. I said nothing in secret. Why question me? Ask those who heard me. Surely they know what I said.” When Jesus said this, one of the officials nearby slapped him in the face. “Is this the way you answer the high priest?” he demanded. “If I said something wrong,” Jesus replied, “testify as to what is wrong. But if I spoke the truth, why did you strike me?”
... Then Pilate took Jesus and had him flogged. The soldiers twisted together a crown of thorns and put it on his head. They clothed him in a purple robe and went up to him again and again, saying, “Hail, king of the Jews!” And they slapped him in the face.
Reflection
The One and Only Son of God who took on flesh to be with us, in this moment, had His flesh ripped apart with a whip called the "cat of nine tails." Each "tail" of the whip was laced with bone & clay fragments that would tear skin & muscle from the victim's body. In an effort to mock & ridicule Jesus, the soldiers stabbed a crown of thorns into His head, & then clothed His mutilated body with a purple robe.

"But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed." - Isaiah 55:5
